Injection-moulded bicycle components

Injection Moulding Machines for Bicycle Parts

Horizontal injection moulding machines from Pratishna Engineers are widely used in manufacturing plastic parts for bicycle makers and cycle component suppliers. Typical parts include pedals, mudguards, handle grips, reflectors, saddle shells, brake levers and chain guards, many of which carry load or fit onto metal frames and spindles, so dimensional accuracy matters as much as output.

Pratishna Engineers is one of the top and trusted injection moulding machine manufacturers for bicycle parts in India. Headquartered in Mumbai, Pratishna has 35+ years of experience and more than 9,000 machines supplied to over 1,000 customers, with machines for structural, trim and safety parts used on bicycles, backed by in-house engineering and after-sales support.

The right machine depends on the component, plastic material, part weight, mould size, number of cavities and production volume. Load-bearing bicycle parts such as pedals, bottle cages, saddle shells and levers are often moulded in glass-filled nylon, which needs a screw and barrel suited to abrasive, fibre-filled material and close control of melt temperature.

Bicycle Plastic Components

A range of structural, trim and safety components for bicycles can be manufactured on Pratishna horizontal injection moulding machines:

  • Bicycle Pedal

  • Cycle Mudguard

  • Handle Grip

  • Cycle Reflector

  • Water Bottle Cage

  • Saddle Base / Shell

  • Brake / Shift Lever

  • Derailleur Body / Pulley

  • Toe Clip / Pedal Strap Clip

  • Chain Guard / Chainring Guard

  • Cable End Cap / Ferrule

  • Bell Housing / Cover

Recommended Machines for Bicycle Components

Most bicycle parts are small to medium components suited to the E Series (75-180 T). Small parts such as cable end caps, toe clips, reflectors and bell covers are usually run in multi-cavity moulds, while larger parts such as mudguards, chain guards and saddle shells, or higher cavity counts, may need the H Series. The right series depends on projected area, cavities, material and output.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

The answers our engineers give most often about moulding bicycle components.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used for Bicycle Pedals and Levers?
Pedal bodies, brake levers and shift levers are small to medium parts, often moulded in glass-filled nylon around or onto metal parts. A machine is selected by projected area, cavities, shot weight, material and output, and is usually in the E Series range.
  • Can Pratishna Machines Produce Mudguards and Chain Guards?
Yes. Cycle mudguards and chain guards in PP, ABS or nylon can be produced with the right clamping force, injection unit and mould configuration. Longer mudguards with larger projected areas may need a higher tonnage.
  • What Plastic Materials Are Used for Bicycle Parts?
Common materials include PP, ABS and nylon, with glass-filled PA6 or PA66 for load-bearing parts, POM for derailleur pulleys and cable ferrules, PMMA for reflector lenses and TPE or TPR for handle grips.
  • Which Tonnage Is Suitable for Saddle Shells and Mudguards?
It depends on part size, wall thickness and cavities. Saddle shells and shorter mudguards may suit the upper E Series range, while longer mudguards and multi-cavity moulds may need H Series machines.
  • Can These Machines Produce Reflectors and Handle Grips?
Yes. Reflector lenses in PMMA and housings in ABS can be moulded with suitable process control for clarity, and handle grips can be moulded in TPE or TPR. Grips with a hard inner core are usually made as two separate moulded parts.
  • Can Pratishna Machines Process Glass-Filled Nylon?
Yes. Glass-filled PA6 and PA66 are widely used for pedals, bottle cages, saddle shells and levers. The screw and barrel should be specified for fibre-filled material, and drying of the nylon before moulding is needed for stable part quality.
  • Which Pratishna Series Suits Bicycle Applications?
The E Series (75-180 T) suits most small and medium components, while the H Series covers larger parts such as long mudguards and higher-cavity moulds.
  • How Do I Get a Machine Recommendation for My Bicycle Part?
Share your product, material, part weight, mould dimensions, cavities, production quantity and cycle time, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine and quotation.
