Injection Moulding Machines for Sports & Protective Equipment
Pratishna Engineers manufactures injection moulding machines that produce plastic sports goods and protective equipment. Typical parts include PC and ABS helmet shells and visors, shin guard and knee guard shells, sports goods parts such as studs, grips and frames, fitness equipment pulleys, collars and guards, goggle frames, boot and binding buckles, bottle caps and cages, and weight plate rims, many of which are impact tested or certified as part of the finished product.
Pratishna Engineers is one of the top and trusted injection moulding machine manufacturers for sports and protective equipment in India. Headquartered in Mumbai, Pratishna has 35+ years of experience and more than 9,000 machines supplied to over 1,000 customers, offering horizontal, two-platen and hybrid machines for helmets, guards, sports goods and fitness parts, backed by in-house engineering and after-sales support.
The right machine depends on the component, plastic material, part weight, mould size, number of cavities and production volume. Protective parts are judged on impact at the moulded thickness, often at low temperature, so the choice of PC, ABS, PA6-GF or impact-modified PP and a stable process matter more than surface finish. Much protective gear combines a moulded shell with bought-in foam, so only the rigid and elastomer parts are injection moulding work.

Helmet Shell
Helmet Visor / Face Shield
Shin Guard
Mouthguard
Protective Padding (pads, inserts and guards)
Sports Goods Component (racket and bat parts, studs, grips, frames)
Fitness Equipment Part (end caps, pulleys, collars, guards, adjusters)
Helmet Vent, Visor Pivot and Retention Hardware
Sport Goggle and Eyewear Frame (ski, MX, swim)
Knee / Elbow Guard Shell and Strap Hardware
Boot, Skate and Binding Buckle, Ratchet and Frame Components
Water Bottle, Cage and Hydration Fittings
Gym Weight Plate Rim, Guard and Collar
Recommended Machines for Sports & Safety Components
Sports goods parts, mouthguards, boot and binding buckles, bottle caps and cages and fitness end caps and collars suit the E Series (75-180 T). Helmet visors, fitness guards and pulleys and weight plate rims may need the H Series, and PC or ABS helmet shells suit the PHM Series two-platen machines, subject to shell size. Helmet vents, visor pivots and retention hardware need precise, repeatable fits and suit the Hybrid machines. Shin guards, knee guards, padding and goggle frames with a soft TPU or TPE layer bonded to a rigid part are evaluated for a Special Purpose machine.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
The answers our engineers give most often about moulding sports and protective equipment components.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used for Helmet Shells?
PC, ABS and PC/ABS helmet shells are large parts where shell size and projected area set the tonnage. Smaller shells suit PHM Series two-platen machines up to 350 tons, and larger shells should be checked against the mould size first. Fibreglass, aramid and carbon shells are laid up and compression moulded, so they are not injection moulding work. Can Pratishna Machines Produce Helmet Visors and Face Shields?
Yes. Visors and face shields in optical PC are moulded on a similar process to PC shells but from a polished optical tool, and usually run on H Series machines. Dried material and stable injection control flow lines and optical distortion. What Plastic Materials Are Used for Sports and Protective Equipment?
Common materials include PC, ABS and PC/ABS for helmet shells and visors, PP, PE and PC for guard shells, PA6-GF and PA66-GF for studs, frames, buckles and fitness parts, POM for ratchets, pulleys and sliders, TPU and TPE for grips, seals and padding, EVA for mouthguards, and impact-modified PP copolymer for weight plate rims.Which Tonnage Is Suitable for Fitness Equipment Guards and Weight Plate Rims?
It depends on part size, wall thickness and projected area. Pulleys, collars and end caps run on E Series machines, while larger ABS guards and shrouds and weight plate rims and collars usually need H Series machines. Thick sections are cooling limited.
Can These Machines Produce Shin Guards and Knee Guards?
Yes. The rigid PP, PE or PC shells run on E or H Series machines, with the foam backing bought in and laminated. Shells with a soft TPU or TPE hinge or edge bonded in the mould are evaluated for a Special Purpose machine. Boil-and-bite mouthguards are thermoformed from EVA sheet, while stock guards and rigid carriers can be moulded. How Do You Mould Protective Parts That Pass Impact Tests?
Choose impact grades suited to the test temperature, dry PC and nylon before moulding, keep wall thickness uniform and avoid weld lines in impact zones. Freeze the material, colourant and process once the finished product is certified, since changes can mean re-testing.Which Pratishna Series Suits Sports & Safety Applications?
The E Series (75-180 T) suits small sports and fitness parts, the H Series covers visors, guards and plate rims, the PHM Series (160-350 T) covers helmet shells, and Hybrid machines suit helmet vents and pivots. Two-material guards and goggles are evaluated for a Special Purpose machine. How Do I Get a Machine Recommendation for My Sports Component?
